  Were You Ever a Member of the Secret Police?

  a lot of experiences have been written about elders spying on people, tailing them in cars, etc.

  i think this may have once happened to me, but am not sure if my intuition was correct or if my mind was just playing tricks.

  i sometimes have some paranoia as a result of the trauma of being in the jws, so i am not sure what to believe.

  My dad was assigned to keep tabs on Rocky's uncle. No one was supposed to know but I don't think my dad was very discreet at the time. This all seemed odd to me since my dad lived one state away from the uncle. I used to think the uncle was paranoid but have learned he had reason to be concerned.

  The informant thing thrives in the gossipy JW community. I remember the CO asking me all kinds of very personal questions about Rocky's sister and brother-in-law. We were alone in the car while the others were at a return visit. I was young, it was strange. Of course I didn't know anything about them so wasn't a very good informant.

  When I was much younger a friend was trying to get a scriptural divorce from her wayward JW husband (he had given her some sort of STD due to his infidelity, but this wasn't enough evidence for the elders). Her elder dad helped her hire a private investigator to catch this guy. It was a very sad situation. They finally got their scriptural divorce. But don't know why she was so worried, she ended up DFd for something else.

  Did you throw your meeting clothes out?

  just been clearing some space in my house and deciding what to get rid of.i have a whole rack of "meeting clothes" shirts , suits ties etc that i have never worn since i left.i kept a few shirts and a couple of suits just in case i need them sometime.what a load of money those clothes most have cost me.one extra good reason for leaving, and think of all those dry cleaning bills you'll miss as well.bad luck if you work in an office.

  We still have Mr Rocky's suits, but they are hardly worn. They were getting a little tight right after we bought them, which was before we quit going to meetings. My clothes...I never did the 'dress up to kill Jesus' thing (new clothes for memorial and every assembly/convention). So I only had a few things, mostly skirts and blouses. So they've all worn out. My kids got rid of everything almost right away. The youngest misses having someplace to go all dressed up. Not much dress up occasions in college. Don't miss having to drop big bucks on winter boots and wool coats for winter service.

  we were the example of the congregation, we were to do no wrong!

  the strickt life of being counselled everyday on everything!

  but were we the worst, i did almost everything you were not suposed to do!

  PO's daughter, fortunately his congregation is several hundred miles from me. So I am out of sight, out of mind. He hasn't cultivated friendships in this District or Circuit so that works well for me. I'm still managing to stay under the WT radar.

  The thought crossed my mind that since Christmas fell on Wednesday, the biggest field service day for the local KH, we might have a visit from the congregation. Townfolk around here have made it known they don't want the WT in their face on their favorite holiday. So they would be looking for something less threatening to do. But no one came knocking at our door, or even down our road (we're the only ones on our road). No phone calls from our nosey JW family either. So another year spent happily with our children.

  Overseer's Visit & Hypocrisy

  why is it that when the overseer visits the congregation, that just about everybody shows up to the meetings and they all go in the field service?

  a whole week of endless zeal just to prove that they are all so spiritual.

  is gone, they all come back to normal.

  The CO visit was supposed to be an time of encouragement. NOT! Only the brown nosers were happy, or those totally ignorant. I am so happy not to be a part of the whole charade .

  Random acts of kindness

  wt taught us that people outside the borg were wicked, selfish, and no good.

  my experience with non jws has been quite the opposite.

  last night some friends (never been jw friends) took mr rocky to dinner for his birthday.

  WT taught us that people outside the Borg were wicked, selfish, and no good. My experience with non JWs has been quite the opposite. Last night some friends (never been JW friends) took Mr Rocky to dinner for his birthday. They sang the "happy birthday" song to him (loudly, off tune, quite the spectacle). A few tables away an 11 year old boy was also celebrating his birthday. He came over to our table to share cake and birthday wishes. It was so sweet and random, totally unselfish, exactly the opposite of what WT taught us to believe about 'worldly' people. It really made Rocky's birthday a memorable occasion.

  I am the very proud mother of two daughters in college. One is majoring in Spanish, the other is majoring in an undecided field of engineering. They are living uncharted waters for this family. Mr Rocky and I were not afforded the opportunity to attend college. We both fully believed the end of the system would happen before we finished high school. LOL - glad we didn't hold those expectations for our children!

  Even if what you hear reported in the media isn't quite the way you would like the law to read it is important to contact your state rep. Something similar was discussed by Washington State Legislature, if I recall correctly, in 1998, but did not make it to law. It is my opinion that this issue was not given the public attention it deserves and of course, at that time, the clerical lobby was strong. So letting your politicians know what is on your mind is important. They will not support something they feel is not supported by their constituency!

  Mental health professionals (counselors and therapists) have been mandatory reporters for years in Washington State. Washington has some of the strictest confidentiality laws governing mental health. These laws take backstage when there is suspicion of child abuse. As for protecting confidentiality, only those who need to know to investigate the allegations are included in the knowledge loop. It makes so much sense for clergy to be mandatory reporters as they often serve as first line counselors, especially in smaller and rural communities.

  BTW, it has been a rare occurence in my little area of the world (time period-last 12 years) that children accuse falsely. There have been a few cases with little or no publicity where a child has falsely accused an adult of abuse. The adults were cleared and have not experienced damage to their reputation. So while the concern over false allegations is real, it is over rated, at least IMHO. But this is only my opinion....

  Going in service on holidays

  remember how embarrassing it was to show up at someone's door on a holiday?when i was a teenager i went out with a very zealous pioneer sister on christmas day.we worked an upscale neighborhood of town and of course all the servants were off so they would answer the door themselves.i rang one doorbell and a lady came to the door and i could see her family inside sitting in chairs in a circle opening gifts.they all looked at me to see who in the world was calling on christmas,i suppose.i gave my presentation with a red face and she just looked at me and said"don't you know today is christmas?

  "how embarrassing is that?so glad i don't have to do that anymore.

  A number of years ago my mother-in-law went to a door of a neighbor family on Christmas day. It was not pleasant for either the household or my mother-in-law. That household was added to the list of 'do-not-calls' and continues to this day to be very anti-JW. The mother of this family is a teacher at the local school. Previous to this holiday JW call she had been quite kind and considerate to JW children. Since then she has been less patient. Holiday witnessing around here seems to do more damage than good. Another alienating practice of WT. For all of you who felt it was invading family privacy - AMEN!

  The Watchtower Plot Against Us

  the watchtower organisation has been guilty of major coverups and blatant lies.. it does not want ex jws telling others what they know.. does it ever occur to you that the watchtower have people who post on this board, gathering information about us?

  they could use it against us at any time....they could keep a record of what we say on our posts and establish who we really are.. e.g.

  people who i hardly ever speak to on this board suddenly seem to know details about me.

  Sirona,

  I can sympathize with what you are feeling. And it is true, many on this board have nothing to lose if their identities are know. But there are some of us still trying to stay under the radar. Most of my extended family and in-laws are still loyal to WT. Some of them know we are doing the fade away, and even know some of our closest friends are apostates. Others suspect but have not confronted us, mostly because they live far away - out of sight, out of mind. But I do try to be very careful to avoid sharing too much information here that would uniquely identify me or my family. Only because the shunning practice would be devasting to deal with for both mother and mother-in-law. If it were only the dads and brothers to lose it probably wouldn't be an issue for me. I would really like to be let go of any ties to WT but must be patient until mother and mother-in-law are in a place to handle the consequences. Warm regards to you,
